Ex-F1 driver claims Fernando Alonso deserves much ‘more than two world championships’ in F1
Lucas Peltier-USA TODAY Sports

Fernando Alonso , the Aston Martin F1 driver, has been taking challengers for a spin since 2001. Despite being the oldest driver on the grid, he has not lost any of his raw speed, and ahead of the upcoming Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, ex-F1 driver/Aston Martin Ambassador, Pedro de la Rosa has taken the time to shower immense praise on him.

The 53-year-old, a former racing driver himself, understands how difficult it is to keep racing at an advanced age and thus, he has huge respect for Fernando Alonso (42). The latter since joining Aston Martin has transformed himself into an extremely lethal driver.

Alonso is a two-time world champion, but according to De La Rosa, he deserves a lot more!

I always think that at the end of the day, he deserves so much more from the sport. Not because of how much he’s put into it, because I think other drivers have made that effort and have pushed themselves since they were kids as well, but because his passion, dedication, and raw talent, deserve a lot more than two World Championships. Pedro de la Rosa said in an interview with racingnews365

Alonso is a true inspiration for the young generation. His love and passion for the pinnacle of motor racing speaks volumes, and this is one of the reasons why Aston Martin recently extended his contract with a multi-year deal.

Fernando Alonso is an ‘asset’ for any team

While De La Rosa has indicated that he wants to see Alonso win more championships, he has also made it known that the latter is an out-and-out asset for Aston Martin. Not many drivers on the current grid have the kind of know-how Alonso possesses.

Several of the young drivers in the sport, look up to him.

He's an asset for any team, and it is great to work with him because you keep learning with a guy like him every time, even at my age. He knows me very well, I know him very well, so it just adds a bit of confidence in the work we have in front of us and the challenges we will face. Pedro de la Rosa said in the same interview

The AMR24 has so far proved to be the fifth-fastest challenger on the 2024 grid. However, with upgrades coming onto the car for this week’s Imola event, the teams hope to move upward on the grid. The onus will again be on Fernando Alonso to sparkle his magic around the 4.909 km long Enze e Dino Ferrari racing circuit.
