Joe Burrow, Bengals will take on Patrick Mahomes and Chiefs in NFL week 2
USA Today

The NFL is gifting its fans some thrilling quarterback matchups to kick off the fall season. The Chiefs already were opening against the Ravens, giving us Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson.

Now, get ready for Patrick Mahomes versus Joe Burrow. The NFL will reveal the 2024 schedule, Wednesday, but select games are getting leaked.

The Chiefs. the two-time defending Super Bowl champions, will play two straight games at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. For the second week of the season, the game will kick at 4:25 p.m. ET. CBS has the broadcast.

The Mahomes-Burrow rivalry is one of the best in the NFL. However, it got sidetracked last year thanks to Burrow’s season-ending wrist injury. When the Chiefs and Bengals played in week 17, Burrow was recovering from surgery. Kansas City won, 25-17.

Before last season, the Chiefs and Bengals battled in the AFC title games in 2022 and 2023. The Bengals and Burrows got the better of the Chiefs to qualify for the Super Bowl against the Rams. Then Mahomes and Kansas City got the better of Burrow and the Bengals the next season. The Chiefs then beat the Eagles for the Super Bowl title.

Mahomes is having a terrific time this off season. He paid tribute to wife, Brittany, in a sweet Mother’s Day post. The day before, he sat courtside to watch the Dallas Mavericks beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 105-101 in the second-round of the NBA playoffs.

The Chiefs conducted its rookie camp May 4-6. Phase 3 of OTAs will start later this month.

Meanwhile, Burrow is bulking up to prep for the season. He should be cleared, medically, to go through full drills by next month.

“I’m gonna continue to get stronger and bigger throughout the offseason and just play it by ear, depending on how I feel,” Burrow told reporters last week. “I’m in a good spot right now; I’m really strong, bigger than I was. We’re gonna continue to eat right, lift and go through my routine and see where I’m at.”

Plus, he provided more details about getting his passing arm back in shape.

“Whenever you have an injury to your throwing side, you’re never quite sure how it’s going to turn out at the end,” he told reporters. “But I’m in a good spot. I’m happy with where I’m at, and I’m going to continue to get better.”
